Friday 21st August marked an important milestone for the Muswellbrook Solar Farm & Battery in New South Wales, as we celebrated the start of construction with a sod-turning ceremony.
Muswellbrook is a powerful example of the energy transition in action: a former coal mine is being transformed into a new source of renewable energy, combining 135 MW solar power with 100 MW battery storage to help optimise when electricity is delivered and support grid stability.
“Projects like this are important, because we need more renewable energy to reduce emissions and tackle climate change. But it is also about building a smarter, more flexible energy system for the future, and we are proud to be part of doing that, here in Muswellbrook,” said OX2 CEO Matthias Taft.
We were pleased to be joined by NSW Minister for Finance Courtney Houssos, who attended the ceremony. A big thank you also to our co-development partner Idemitsu Australia Pty Ltd., our landowners, and all local stakeholders, lenders, suppliers and contractors involved in the project.
A special thanks to Uncle Laurie Perry and Uncle Richie Lawton for performing a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at the event, and for sharing the beautiful tradition of the didgeridoo with us.
